It is the policy of the Idaho Board of Correction that the Department of Correction
ensure proper medical, dental, psychiatric and psychological services and treatment be
provided to inmates incarcerated under its jurisd iction, including those state-sentenced
offenders held in non-IDOC facilities.

Facility Health Authority: The on-site Health Authority or senior health staff assigned.
Medical Authority: Idaho Department of Correction Health Services Chief.
Medical Director: A physician (M.D.) either employed by the Idaho Department of
Correction or the physician in charge if medical services are privatized.
Regional Health Manager: The individual assigned as the primary manager who is
administratively responsible for the delivery of medical services if health services are
privatized.

05.00.00. PROCEDURE
The Division of Institutional Services shall request that the Facility Hea lth Authority and
the IDOC Training Manager coordinate and provide training for new health care staff
during the pre-service Basic Training Academies. The Facility Health Authority shall
also provide a period of initial orientation for new health care sta ff by formally
addressing the unique tasks and requirements of the institution.
The Facility Health Authority shall provide information and schedule for continuing
medical education programs.
Additionally, the Facility Health Authority shall provide as needed in-service training
programs to ensure that skills of the health care staff are current within the institutional
setting.
The Facility Health Authority shall cooperate with the Training Manager to provide
appropriate First Aid and CPR training for medical and other correctional staff to ensure
the highest possible emergency medical response.
The first aid and CPR training and certificate in accordance with the American Red
Cross or American Heart Association shall be awarded by an individual with a current
instructor’s certificate.
All qualified health care professionals will receive at least 12 hours of Continuing
Education in accordance to their assigned positions.
All qualified health care professionals who have patient contact must have
current training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
