BOARD OF CORRECTION IDAPA RULE NUMBER 401 Medical Care POLICY STATEMENT It is the policy of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) and its contractors to provide proper medical, dental, psychiatric and psychological services, and treatment to inmates incarcerated under its jurisdiction. All healthcare must be provided in accordance with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) Standards for Health Services in Prisons. PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to communicate the department’s philosophy regarding standards for healthcare provided to inmates in the custody of the IDOC. SCOPE This policy applies to all standard operating procedures created under its authority and to all employees and contractors of the IDOC. Nothing in this policy relieves contract medical providers of any obligation or responsibility stipulated in their respective contractual agreements. RESPONSIBILITY The deputy director of the IDOC and chief of the management services division are responsible for overseeing the implementing this policy and developing and implementing standard operating procedures to fully implement this policy. • The IDOC health authority is responsible for monitoring compliance with this policy. • When services are privatized, the contract medical provider is responsible for ensuring this policy is adhered to unless specifically exempted by written contractual agreements.
