POLICY STATEMENT
It is the policy of the Idaho Department of Correction to use a comprehensive and uniform
classification system to achieve effective and efficient inmate management.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to provide direction in creating and maintaining a classification
system that places inmates in facilities having appropriate security and programming.
SCOPE
This policy applies to all inmates housed in correctional facilities under the jurisdiction of the
Idaho Department of Correction and staff members involved in the classification process.
RESPONSIBILITY
The chief of the prisons division is responsible to develop a standard operating procedure
providing a consistent method of classification to determine custody level assignment of
inmates placed in department prisons and community work centers.
