POLICY STATEMENT It is the policy of the Board of Correction that the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) maintains a tobacco free environment. D. PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to the department regarding the possession and use of tobacco products and products that are similar to tobacco products in appearance or method of use. Control Number: 104 Version: 4.0 Title: Tobacco Free Environment Page Number: 2 of 2 Idaho Department of Correction E. SCOPE The scope of this policy includes department employees, volunteers, contractors, vendors, visitors, and residents or clients on properties the department rents, leases or manages, and state vehicles. F. RESPONSIBILITY 1. Director The director is responsible to implement the requirements set forth in this policy. 2. Division Chiefs Division chiefs may implement standard operating procedures when necessary to provide further clarification of the requirements of this policy. G. POLICY 1. Tobacco products and tobacco-like products, such as electronic cigarettes and non-tobacco chews such as herbal or jerky chews, may be secured in vehicles in the parking lots, but are not allowed in department facilities to include prisons, community reentry centers, and probation and parole offices. 2. In addition to the tobacco-free rule, items similar to tobacco products in how they are packaged and/or used, such as electronic cigarettes and non-tobacco chews such as herbal or jerky chews, are not allowed inside facility perimeters nor can they be used/consumed on IDOC property. Such products cause disruption in the orderly operations of the facility, cause additional work for supervisors as they attempt to determine if tobacco is present, create a method for hiding violations of the IDOC tobacco-free policy, and may present an unprofessional image to the public, visitors, and offenders. 3. In addition, tobacco products and tobacco like products as described in this policy cannot be used or consumed in state vehicles. 4. This policy does not apply to smoking cessation products such as patches or gum. H. REFERENCES None – End of Document –
