Purpose
The purpose of this field memorandum is to provide specific guidelines that are unique to this facility in order to fully implement standard operating procedure315.02.01.001. The deputy
warden of operations has oversight responsibility.
General Statement
This field memorandum is subject to revision at the discretion of the warden of this facility, chief of the Operations Division (or designee), or director of the Idaho Department of
Correction. Any one of these persons may revise, suspend, or rescind any procedural steps, at any time, at hissole discretion.
SUICIDE WATCH/ROOMS CELLS
The suicide watch cells are the medical/observations cell #4 and #5 in the medical unit. A-Block has an overflow approved cells #3 and #5 only.
The shift commander will notify and brief the on-duty medical nurse when an inmate is being placed on suicide watch.
Prospective Inmate Companions
Prospective inmate companions must meet the following criteria:
Investigations will review the names of the prospective inmate companion prior to selection
Have been at ISCC for a minimum of 60 days or have prior experience as an inmate companion
Have had no DORs during the past 6 months
Have not had suicidal tendencies, committed or displayed attempts, within the last six (6) months.
Have a high school diploma or GED
The suicide risk coordinator exercises right to make exceptions
Supervision of Companions During a Suicide Watch
The suicide risk coordinator/designee will be responsible for the direct supervision of inmate companions. Evaluation of offender volunteers will be conducted in consultation with security
staff after a three month probationary period and once every six months thereafter.
After completing 150 hours, 250 hours, and 350 hours each inmate companion will receive a certificate. The inmate companion will receive an original of the certificate and one copy.
A copy of the certificate will be placed in the inmate companion’s central file.
Following a suicide watch the suicide risk coordinator will debrief the inmate companion either individually or in a group setting.
During a suicide watch, the companion inmate may contact staff by calling to the nearest staff or pressing an emergency button, depending on the location of the holding cell.
EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT
Each officer will have a cut down tool checked out to them from control upon arriving on post. Sergeants and above will have their own cut down tool issued to them. These tools will
be ordered through and maintained by the tool control sergeant.
