2Altar Box: Inmates are allowed two small storage containers in their personal property purchased from the
commissary for the following usage:
• One for general purpose and/or hobby craft and
• One for storage of religious items
The storage boxes and content must not be carried between the inmate’s living area and the religious activity
center or sweat lodge. The religious item storage container can also serve as an altar.
3Trade Cloth: The trade cloth and its contents are not carried between the inmate’s living area and the religious
activity center or sweat lodge. If an inmate wants to use the trade cloth and/or its contents in ceremonies or
services outside of his cell or bunk area, then the trade cloth and all of its contents are ceremonial personal

religious property.
4Diety Figurines: Due to so many figurines for so many different religions and faiths and the difficulty for Keefe
to source these items, figurines are the only item excepted from the SOP and residents should go to the facility
VRC to facilitate the purchase of a figurine according to applicable SOPs and facility procedures.
5Elemental Stones/Materials: No diamonds, emeralds, rubies, pearls, etc.
6Feathers: Eagle Feathers: Purchased from the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Office of Law Enforcement,
National Eagle Repository. Native Americans are responsible for obtaining all the necessary documentation and
paying any associated costs. Native Americans must provide the volunteer and religion coordinator (VRC)
copies of all documentation before an eagle feather can be added to their personal religious property. The VRC
retains copies of the documentation. The IDOC must not possess eagle feathers and there must not be any
group religious ceremonial eagle feather(s).
7LED Tea Light Candles: Replacement batteries are not available for candles. New candles must be
purchased.
8Neck Adornment and/or Medallion: May vary due to religious preferences. If requested item is not available,
inmate will request a specific neck adornment or medallion to be added to commissary through the facility VRC.
Items not immediately available may take up to 90 days to be added and available for purchase. Religious rings
without a stone, raised or attached religious symbol can be worn as a medallion. The religious symbol can be
engraved.
